Stephanie Greenwood - Senior Strategy Officer for Economic Justice

Stephanie Greenwood leads the Victoria Foundation’s work to support community-based efforts that advance economic justice in Newark.  She brings over twenty years of experience in public policy, advocacy, coalition-building, and project management in the nonprofit, public, and philanthropic sectors as well as a strong commitment to place-based equity and justice.

For the last fifteen years, her work has focused on Newark, where she has had a chance to learn from community leaders and deepen her knowledge and political analysis in the areas of housing, sustainability, and community development.  As a member of the City of Newark’s Economic and Housing Development Department from 2007 to 2014, she coordinated a multi-municipality taskforce responding to the foreclosure crisis, helped secure and deploy over $20 million in federal funds to reclaim abandoned housing.  From 2011 to 2014, she served as the City of Newark’s Sustainability Director, shepherding the adoption of its first Sustainability Action Plan and growing and institutionalizing Newark’s municipal commitment to sustainability.

Since moving to the Victoria Foundation in 2014, she has mobilized resources in support of groups working to improve Newark’s environmental health and increase quality, security, and affordability of homes with a focus on nurturing home-grown, grassroots solutions.  She serves as the co-chair of the Environmental Funders Affinity Group for the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers and coordinates the Healthy Homes impact team for Believe in a Healthy Newark.

As a philanthropic professional, she seeks to move resources to communities bearing the brunt of multiple structural inequities, to co-design funding strategies aimed at dismantling those inequities, and to support the creation of a healthier, more just local economy.

Stephanie holds an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a Masters of Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University.  Originally from Montclair, NJ, after 12 great years living in Newark, she now resides in Bloomfield.
