Victoria Foundation concluded its 100-year anniversary festivities with a gala at The Newark Museum of Art on Dec. 4, 2024. Partners, funders, community leaders, and friends were in attendance to celebrate the Foundation's rich history.

The Foundation also distributed $2.5 million in grants at the gala. The Centennial Impact Awards were given to seven organizations in each of the Foundation's focus areas. For Strengthening Community Power, Leadership Newark received $300,000, and the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, $500,000. For Fostering Economic Justice, FOCUS Hispanic Center for Community Development Inc. received $300,000, and Ironbound Community Corporation, $500,000. For Promoting Youth Self-determination, Leaders for Life, Sadie Nash, and The GEM Project each received $300,000.

In addition to the gala, several other events were held throughout the year to commemorate the Foundation's anniversary. In October, hundreds gathered at the Paul Robeson Campus Center at Rutgers University – Newark for the Newark Future Forum. Presented by Victoria Foundation, in partnership with Rutgers University – Newark, the one-day symposium featured local and national experts, residents, philanthropic organizations, and community leaders who discussed the pressing issues facing Newark and similar communities nationwide. The event was a remarkable success, with many attendees remarking that it was an energizing day full of opportunities for collaboration, amazing speakers, and thought-provoking conversations.

Victoria Foundation also presented Ironbound Community Corporation, FOCUS Hispanic Center for Community Development Inc., Unified Vailsburg Services Organization, Arts Ed Newark, Urban League of Essex County, South Ward Promise Neighborhood, Clinton Hill Community Action, and Las Casa de Don Pedro each with $5,000 to hold a community event of its choice during 2024. These funds were used to sponsor activities such the FOCUS Back to School 2024 Celebration, Hispanic Heritage Month's From Rebellion to Excellence: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Newark's Puerto Rican Rebellion of 1974, and the ribbon cutting for Fairmount Heights Children's Village Park.

Victoria Foundation was founded by Hendon Chubb on December 27, 1924, with the aspiration to help improve the lives of those less fortunate than himself. Named after his mother, Victoria Eddis Chubb, the Foundation began its charitable work in 1925 with a $2,000 grant to assess housing conditions in Orange, New Jersey.

Over the last century, the Foundation has refined its focus and transitioned to supporting community-based organizations, civic leaders, and residents with more than $380 million invested in families and children to date, with most of that going to organizations in Newark. This values-based, place-based, relationship-driven approach will continue to be guiding principles for Victoria's future work.

With the 100-year anniversary at an end, the Foundation is looking ahead to 2025 and a new era of philanthropy with community that places the voices, priorities, and the well-being of residents, local organizations, and other stakeholders at the center of its work.

others who together work on the community level for a more justsustainable and humane world.
The Victoria Foundation and it's ecosystem of grantees is uplifting, engaging and effective. There is no doubt that it will continueto be a strong and compassionate leader as it enters its second century of positive societal, cultural and environmental impact.
