Newark's newest collaboration is the NEWARK STEAM COALITION, housed within Newark Thrives!, the new out-of-school-time network for Newark. The Victoria Foundation helped create both Newark Thrives! and the STEAM Coalition. This coalition aims to build education pathways in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math that impact youth from pre-school through college. Over 20 organizations in Newark have come together to form this new "ecosystem" including the city of Newark, foundations, higher education institutions, corporations, local non-profits, arts organizations, and district and charter schools. Currently, the group is in the process of mapping all STEM/STEAM assets in the city.
It also helped to promote the district's first STEM week last June, when 2,000 public school middle grade students spent the week conducting hands-on activities and project-based learning.
