On Sunday, October 28th, trustees, staff, and the family of Gordon "Sandy" Millspaugh, Jr. gathered along with the leadership of Avon Avenue School, local gardeners, and representatives from Greater Newark Conservancy to dedicate a new orchard created on a formerly vacant lot located across from the school on Avon Avenue. This event honored Sandy's life and legacy as a long-time trustee of the Victoria Foundation and a champion for a healthy environment in Newark and statewide.
The orchard will serve as an outdoor learning space for students at the Avon Avenue School in conjunction with the school garden staff at Greater Newark Conservancy. It will beautify the corner of Avon Avenue and Chadwick Street in the Clinton Hill neighborhood. The orchard was created and will be maintained by Citybloom, the social enterprise landscaping company created by Greater Newark Conservancy with help from the Victoria Foundation.
